Spring Open House

Spring Open house

Detroit's spring open house should begin with
"Bell Isle Park"

Better known as "Bell Isle" this island park is in the Detroit river between Michigan and Ontario. At over 900 acres it's one of the largest urban parks in the country, even larger than New York's "Central Park"

More than 500,000 Daffodils have been planted all over the Island and at the entrance to the park by the "Woman's National Farm & Garden Association" An annual event at the "Detroit Yacht Club" celebrates the blooming of the "Daffodils" with a luncheon that's open to guest.

The Pear trees were covered with tiny white blossoms, repeating the same look they had only a short while ago of being covered by snow The "Jame's Scott Memorial fountain is in the  background, not yet turned on.

One of the main attractions on the Island is the "Anna Scripps Whitcomb" Conservatory which welcomed guest with a impressive display of orange tulips and "Grape Hyacinth's

The Koi pond had just been re-stocked, and is full of life

More Daffodils frame the pond and the Conservatory

A new family

The Island has hundreds of Willow trees that were just starting to color up. Their Chartreuse  graceful branches added color to the otherwise grey landscape.

On closer inspection, some of the Daffodils were planted in row's that give the illusion of mass plantings when viewed from afar.

A visit to the park in early spring is a great way to celebrate spring.
